New Ethno-Specific Communities

Ethno-specific organisations play a crucial role in the settlement of newly arrived migrants and refugees, as they understand the immediate needs of new arrivals.

Services include:► Assistance to new ethno-specific communities to develop leadership, mentoring and advocacy to form community structures► Connecting and working in partnership with established new communities and the local neighbourhood to build self-reliance and provide a welcoming environment  and supporting community leaders to develop self-supporting skills► Fostering the ability of new and emerging communities to connect with each other and with more established communities and the Australian community at large by participation in local festivals and community events such as Harmony Day, Refugee Week, Riverlights at Maitland and Fiesta La Peel at Tamworth► Referring newly arrived to existing support groups to decrease social isolation and increase interaction with other communities, local sports and social organisations
