Hunter Multicultural Respite Service

The purpose of the service is to:► Provide respite care for frail older people or people with dementia from Culturally and Linguistically Diverse (CALD) backgrounds experiencing difficulty in accessing Centre Based Day Care Centre► Provide a culturally appropriate worker to assist with the care of the individual at the Day Dare Centre to sustain their attendance► Enjoy an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for their safety as well as their well-being► Provide support to the family and other primary carers by receiving respite in their role through the Multicultural Dementia and Disability Carer Support group. Carers meet monthly with the coordinator of the project to share their experiences as carers with each other in a warm and understanding environment.

This group is invaluable support for new carers who are struggling in their caring role. As well as providing emotional support the coordinator provides access to relevant education and information to support them in their role as carers.
